What do Elijah's House youth think about our program?
My name is Kanicka Williams and I have been at Elijah’s House for the fall season and I like Elijah’s house because it is a fun program to do after school. Elijah’s is so helpful in so many ways; it has showed me how to work with other kids and how to write in the correct way. When I first joined the program I thought it was going to be boring and dull, but I was so wrong it is fun and full of excitement. Some days I really don’t want to come to work but when I think about all the fun we have I think to myself “If I don’t go I might miss so much important information” so I push myself to go. I love it when we have our photo shoots! I love taking pictures and modeling clothes and looking fancy. Modeling has always been a thing I have thought about doing because everyone tells me I should because I am tall, skinny and very photogenic. I am trying it and I love it so much when I take pictures I look “FIERCE”! I love coming to the program doing what I have always dreamed of doing.
When I come to work everyday I don’t feel like I am at work because I am with my friends and we get our work done together. I thought work was suppose to be boring, but Elijah’s House is no where near boring that’s why I love this job. I wish that my real job will be as much fun as this one. Elijah’s house is the perfect job for me.
Elijah’s House pulled me out of my shyness, because at first I never asked questions when a big group of people was around but now I do. I read aloud now in front of groups of people at my school because Elijah’s House gave me self-confidence to state my opinion without caring what other people think of me. I now feel that I can achieve anything I set my mind too. I’m coming back to Elijah’s House for the next session.

Hello, my name is Carrie Cossom and I am 18 years old. I attend Northeastern Illinois University and I am a part of Elijah’s House program, which involves making a magazine. The name of the magazine is Urban Girl/Urban Teen. The purpose of the magazine is so that everyday teens can express their feelings through creativity and writing. The purpose of this program is to help teens enhance their writing skills as far as becoming a journalist and show them good photography skills.
My thoughts of the program were not exactly what I experienced. I thought it was going to be many boys and girls modeling for a magazine that other people were going to edit. I did not know that we had to make the magazine and model for it ourselves. During the program, I actually did enhance my writing skills as far as becoming a journalist and I learned a few photography skills. I had a great time learning it and working with teens that had ideas as great as mine. The instructors were nice and the prayer we got everyday made me feel as though they really cared for us teens in the program. All in all, this program is great for many teens and allows them to be involved in constructive activities during their past time.
